Object Records

All items in the Department of Antiquiites collections are assigned a unique accession number when they are formally acquired for the permenant collections whether by gift, puchase, transfer or bequest. Accessioning follows the legal transfer of title to the museum, and includes assigning a number and recording details about the source, identification and history for each accessioned item in to the accessions register.

All sources of information held by the museum about objects in the collection are referenced by the unique accession numbers. These include the object history files, and records of analytical and conservation work as well as photographs.
